Duke Energy Chooses ASCENT to Develop Targeted Learning Solutions for its Substation Designers
ASCENT to present overview of custom solutions at Substation Design Solution Industry Consortium on June 24, 2020
As power utilities modernize their energy grids, Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power holding companies in the United States, turned to ASCENT- Center for Technical Knowledge to develop training content for their design engineers.
“Standardizing and implementing the substation design tools and methodologies is an important factor for us to provide dependable power every day,” says Mary Jo Clarkson, manager, design automation tools and support, Duke Energy. “The learning content developed by ASCENT has contributed to the engaging, focused, and consistent training delivered to our staff and will help ensure that Duke Energy continues to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.”
Duke Energy had implemented new 3D design engineering software from Autodesk and needed to get their employees up-to-speed using these tools. They leveraged ASCENT’s standard learning content for Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, and Autodesk Vault software delivered via ASCENT’s self-paced ProductivityNOW eLearning platform. The learning content, designed for multiple learning styles, was broken into learning paths for each job role, saving the substation design team precious time by allowing designers to focus on their specific need-to-know topics. Additionally, ASCENT was asked to create unique learning content around Duke Energy’s specific substation design standards and workflows. This content incorporated video presentations by instructors, detailed hands-on project exercises, and assessments to verify preparedness for each role.
“As energy companies modernize their plants and substations, they’re looking for one partner to deliver a turnkey solution to help them migrate to the latest 3D design software, document processes, plan the most effective workflows and train employees to develop the most intelligent designs,” says Paul Burden, director of product development for ASCENT. “Our capabilities around content creation and process documentation, when combined with the consulting and implementation services provided by our sister company IMAGINiT Technologies, offers a seamless end-to-end solution that achieves this goal in the least amount of time.
